Every time I use an eau de toilette, my skin gets very irritated and an itchy rash develops. It occurs with both cheap and expensive ones. However, it does not occur with lotions like nivea for men aftershave or woodspice.
does anybody know of the the chemical that liquid sprays contain that is causing this problem?
many thanks.|||i get this aswell wheni use certain perfumes
dont know name of the chemical|||whether it be eau de parfum or ear de toilette, it's going to have alcohol in it, which may cause your [sensitive] skin to rash. each toilette has different ingredients in it for the fragrance, but all have alcohol|||Eau de toilette is a combination of scented oils and alcohol. The concentration of alcohol is higher in an eau de toilette than in a parfum. Some people who can't wear eau de toilette can wear a parfum. It's probably the alcohol in the eau de toilette that's drying/irritating your skin. You might try an after shave with a lower alcohol content.
Edit - Here's some information I found at the link below:
Perfume is a combination of fragrant oils diluted in a high-grade alcohol in a concentration containing about 15-25 percent oil, the alcohol being about 90-95 percent pure. This is a parfum. Any mixture with a lower proportion of oil to alcohol is an eau (water).
There are different strengths of eau, their names measure the strength of a fragrance, or what percent of pure perfume oil the product contains. It does not affect the smell (they will smell the same) but will affect how long the fragrance will last on your skin.
EDC - Eau de cologne is the least concentrated form of a fragrance
(2 - 5% perfume oil dissolved in water and alcohol), then comes...
EDT - Eau de toilette (4 - 10%), followed by....
EDP - Eau de parfum (8 - 15%), and finally the most concentrated....
PARFUM or Perfume (15 - 25%).
Since the perfume oil is the expensive ingredient, price goes up accordingly with the strength.|||Beet alcohol do not use EDT on your face aftershave or anything other like this If want to keep young looking skin.
When men shave we exfoliate our skin thus removing a thin layer of skin.So with this it would be better to find a lotion for men or women to use. I have been using the smart cream from La Prairie for a long time .People do not believe me when i tell of my age. There are other products you can use.
Just find the one that works best for you.But remember that skin is skin even if its on a girl or a boy it is all the same,
so it is better for you to calm your skin than to irritate it .
so when you use EDT or others start at your legs and work up.
fragrances rise up.But never on your face Aftershave leave that for your grandfather. His skin is old and tired.|||It maybe the alcohol in the Aftershave that is irritating your skin, try buying alcohol free..

Why does english bulldog lose hair in some places looks like a skin rash is it?
If it's red, sounds like your bully has demodex - a form of mange.
However, demodex (demodoctic mange) isn't contagious to other dogs or humans like black mange is.
You need to take your doggie to the vet so that they can do a skin scrape and look for the mites under a microscope (demodex is caused by a mite that lives at the base of the hair shaft - most dogs have the mite, but it doesn't develop into demodex unless the dogs immune system is supressed for some reason. A rabies shot or entering a heat cycle are just a few causes.).
There is a possibility that you bully has a food allergy, or an allergy to fleas or dust mites. These aren't as common for that breed as demodex is, but can't be ruled out.
If it is demodex, you'll have 2 choices to treat it - either a dip, or Ivomectin (the active ingredient in Heartguard). The dip is quick, but it is a pesticide that has some nasty side effects and potential. The Ivomectin is a little more gentle, plus you don't have to do your regular heartworm treatment at this same time, but it will take 6 weeks of gradually increasing doses.
The choice will be yours, but definitely go see your vet. Any skin irritation that causes your doggie to lose hair can manifest into an infection, and can cause your bully some discomfort.|||Mange|||Probably food allergies. See your vet.|||you should go to a vet for the ultimate answer, but one possibly is mange. mange is a small parasite that infects the dogs skin. loss of hair is a major sympton. the treatment is usually an expensive and tedious dip for the dog. you have to have your dog wear one of those collars so he doesn't lick himself. my advice, get to a vet asap.|||allergies or mange.. see your vet please!!!|||How old is the dog it may be a very common mite infestation called Demodex. Both my bully breeds had it. You can get skin scrapings at the vet to know for sure. This is also referred to as Puppy Mange or Stress Mange. The vet will give you a prescription for a series of Ivomectin that should be gradually increased over a 12 week period to kill the little mites living under the skin.|||usually its food allergies
avoid SOY, WHEAT, CORN, BEEF, and PORK - even in the treats...
have a vet look at the rash - it could be lice or something else.|||My grama's old english had that problem to. it is a skin alergy , you should probably bring him/her to the vet. it is very treatable.|||I actually have a red nose pit and she has the same problem. It could be mange, but I doubt it. I took my dog to the vet and I was told that it was skin allergies. Short hair dogs also pick up staff infections easily from grass. My vet gave me three different medications that I had to give my dog for 30 days and the problem went away and her coat grew back better then before. I must warn you that this will happen every year around spring. Good Luck!|||English bulldogs have very sensitive skin I have one that is 7 years old and if she gets too hot she starts breaking out on her stomach with little red bumps but if I fill up her little kiddie pool and let her in it too cool down then they go away within about an hour so what I would do is really pay attention to what things have changed and as far as the weather, food bath soap etc. etc. and if it doesn't go away then take him to the vet.|||I've seen that problem in one of my dogs. It turned out he was allergic to fleas...lol....so now he's on flea preventative and happy

Been to vet 3 times & no help. Anybody know an OTC cure for cat skin rash caused by allergies?
Cat constantly irritates sores by licking. Just licks off creams given by vets. Had 3 steroid shots already.|||Put a cone on its head. It will look like this and stop him from licking the sores, can be bought at the vet or local pet store.

There is a veterinarian who will answer your medicine related e-mail questions at that web site. they also offer deals on various medications for animals. Another suggestion is to keep your cat indoors at all times and see if the skin rash goes away. If not, find out exactly what the cat may be allergic to (perhaps a plant, a chemical or another animal?), then keep the cat away from the allergen.

For anyone taking maxalt for migraines: did it give you a weird skin rash a few days after??
I'm now taking Frova, but I took Maxalt for several months. I never had any side effects. I only switched to Frova because the Maxalt eventually quit helping. However, everyone reacts to these meds differently. Maybe you'll get some more answers soon.|||no - just a weird sensation in the back of my neck shortly after taking it. but no rash.|||There is a new development in migraine therapy:

I am writing a current events report on a new cream for skin rash. Would this be a topical ointment?
If applied topically it indeed would be called a topical ointment...however, if ingested would cause a current event.
Hope this clears things up for you.|||Very punny.|||yes anything applied to the skin is considered topical|||Doh!

Help!!!!!Hi everyone, now I have been the 14th pregancy, and now I am suffering from skin rash, very itchy?
the rashes are on my neck, breasts, arms and laps, there are small spots, because they are so itch that I couldn't help grab, however, the more I grab, the more they appear, so now nearlly all over my body, I called my doctor, but the appointment is next Monday, so I need to wait for, so do you have some good advice about that?Thank you.I am looking for your help here.|||Call a different doctor. Rashes when pregnant can be very dangerous. Take a cool bath with oatmeal. Make sure it isn't hot because that will dry out your skin and make it worse. Good Luck|||use milk my mom did that when she was pregnant with me put it on a washcloth and blot it it should help.|||i agree milk would work or lotion. do you have 14 children????|||woah 14? i think youre body is trying to tell you to stop!|||You are on the 14th pregnancy?
Use calamine lotion|||It's good that you made an appointment. However, have you actually talked to the doctor? Call your doctor's office and ask the doctor to call you today. Most doctor's offices have someone on call who will answer questions after hours. Your question is somewhat urgent, since sometimes rashes can become more serious. Taking Benedryl will probably help, but since you're pregnant, you shouldn't do this until you talk to your doctor. If you can't get a doctor to call you back today, change doctors and visit an urgent care facility.|||Go to the hospital ER...you could be having an allergic reaction to something and it might get worse and affect your breathing...which can kill you.
Especially being pregnant you need to be proactive about health issues.
Wondering if you have 13 babies total at home or if you are having trouble carrying a pregnancy to term...if that is the case it's even more important to get this checked out.|||take an aveeno oatmeal bath. it should help calm your skin. just make sure its not a very hot bath and that you don't stay in too long. You can use hydrocortisone cream if its a small rash, but most likely you should not use it in that huge of a quantity. Stick with the bath until monday.|||It is NOT NORMAL and it could be DANGEROUS for your baby.
This answer is also for those answering this question that are also itching with out a rash .
Cholestasis of Pregnancy
The only rash like symptom you may have is where you have scratched so much that you make your skin bleed.
IT IS NOT AS RARE AS PEOPLE THINK
Itching during pregnancy especially in the 3rd trimester,
There is a risk to your baby, STILL BIRTH if delivered later than 37 weeks, ICP/OC carries and increased risk of premature labor, fetal and maternal hemorrhaging, fetal distress, and most importantly, stillbirth.
Please visit and READ Information at
www.itchymoms.com
or
Search the web for Cholestasis of Pregnancy or ICP
There is also a news report at www.wkyc.com and clink on the "Itchy Moms" story
Itching can be more dangerous than you think during pregnancy.
I KNOW FROM EXPERIENCE...........
Not all doctors a familiar with Obstetric Cholestasis.
If you go to www.itchymoms.com you will see that most doctors will just brush it aside as a hormonal itch but the result of those pregnancies end up with a sad ending.
I believe it is better to be safe than sorry!!!!!!!!
Go straight to your DR and ask about Cholestasis of Pregnancy or ICP.
It is to do with your liver and pregnancy hormones.
I have had this with 3 of my 4 pregnancies.
All it is, is a simple itch that will drive you crazy that is the only symptom.
Ask to have your Serum Bile Acid Test (SBA)
tested this is the only test that will diagnose OC/ICP, it is a specialized test that can take a week or longer to get back.
The results may come back Normal but if the itching persists you need to be tested again as the symptoms can show up 15 weeks before the blood test diagnose ICP/OC.
Argue with your Dr if you have to, it is worth it.
Liver function tests (LFT) and blood counts DO NOT diagnose OC/ICP the only can help the diagnoses in conjunction with Bile salt tests .
An itch doesn't seem much but it can be FATAL to your baby if it goes undiagnosed.
The itching can be any where, I had it on my legs and arms at first.
I don't want to scare you but please realize this is very important
pregnancy #4 I started to itch at week 8

What type of cosmetic can i apply on my face and neck to treat my skin rash?
In Nigeria, we are experiencing harsh weather now and during this period every year I go through terrible times with rashes all over my face, neck and on my hands.|||I suggest using soaps with glycerin. If a female, use oil free make up and I have sound that Dove moisturizer works the best or Vaseline.Try lemon juice on the face. Can take lemon juice and mix with one egg yoke apply to face and leave on 5 minutes. Rinse with cool water. Or take and peel an orange and grind up the peel add a little water to form a paste and apply as a mask. Leave on for5 minutes then wash off and use the glycerin based moisturizer. Try reducing the intake of milk and white flour and foods high in iodine. Especially seafood.|||I am not sure what products are available to you but wash your "rash" area with pure and natural items.
If you can use a mineral powder foundation (they are in the states at drug stores) it helps - and covers but doesn't sink in to "scabs or scars" like a liquid?|||cleanse with real african black soap and moisturize with purified shea butter.
