How can i provide my dog
relief from skin rash?

i'm hoping to find home or over-the-counter remedies as we've just spent $150 to find out he's got an allergy, but have yet to figureout WHAT he's allergic to! thanks, in advance.|||oatmeal shampoo...the oatmeal removes the irritants from the skin only problem is you have to keep shampooing them every couple of days. since you will need to shampoo so often, careful on the temp of the water since too hot or too cold will leave them with dry ichy skin.

skin so soft from avon also helps, but will leave their coat oily.

we have the same problem with our younger dog and thought it was fleas for the first couple of years, though we couldn't find any fleas. its seasonal allergies...just like a human would get....she struggles with this in the spring for a little while...then it subsides during the summer but comes back really strong in the fall (ragweed season). it is getting better as she gets older...the bouts don't last as long.

oh..one other thing to try...if hes not already, switch his dog food to lamb. if its a food allergy, dogs are almost alway NOT allergic to lamb...if hes still ichy, that will rule food (his own dog food anyway, not table scraps) as the culprit.|||try using hypo-allergenic food.|||Give him a luke warm bath and give him a benedryl tablet hidden in a peice of burger or cheese. My Vet actually told me to do this on a few occasions. The benedryl is a histamine blocker and will give the dog relief.|||gold bond powder, :-?|||Use Benadryl it is an antihistamine and is safe for dogs. In the meantime try to find out what he is allergic to by removing things one at a time and using non allergic shampoo.|||Try using Avon Skin So Soft to bath him.|||Put about a 1/2 cup of vegetable oil on his dog food, it will help with his skin being dry and irritated.|||A cool bath with Aveeno (or generic oatmeal soap) will sooth his skin, and ease itching.

Your vet has probably already told you that an all natural Lamb and rice based kibble is the best for him.

dogs can take benedryl in 1/2 human's dose.

Also, dry chamomile tea is good to make him relax and more ocmfortable..very good for him too.|||although their intentions are good the only thing here that might even come close is the oat meal shampoo but,I doubt it.You WANT SULFODENE you can find it at WAL-Mart.It's yellow at trust me it works been raising animals for 60 years nearly, have lots of long haired dogs that go through it every year at this time.Write it down SUlFODENE|||I have a lab with allergies. I can't for the life of me figure out what its from and for a vet to find out is very costly. I gave her benadryll also. My vet gave me prednisone also, but that's a steroid and is not good for them to take all the time. It's good to use when your dog is just completely miserable. It works. Try and get some if you can for those times when your dog just can't take the itching any more. The baths that the other people recommended are great too. I started feeding fer all natural dog food. Its called Wellness and they have a variety. I use to feed her the fish and sweet potato, that worked really well because the fish oils and omega fatty acids helped her skin so much and gave her relief. They just came out with a allergy formula and I switched to that about 4 months ago and she hasn't been itching at all. Good luck. I hope something helps.|||There is a product that you can get over the counter from your vet called Neocort. It is a anti inflammatory. Just rub it onto the infected areas of your dogs skin it will reduce the redness and inflammation. The other important thing is to try and figure out what is actually causing the irritation to your dogs skin. This can only be done with a proses of elimination. A few things that you might like to try is the dogs diet put him/her on a food with no artificial colours or preservatives. Try using a low irritant washing powder on his/her bedding.

The other thing you can try is to wash him in a product called Maleseb available form your vet over the counter, it is a medicated foam Wash. you use it like normal shampoo but leave it on the skin for about 10 minuets then rinse it of. Continue to do this every two weeks. If this starts to get on top of it then get a oatmeal shampoo i recommend Epi-sooth also get from your vet over the counter so use your maleseb one time then the 2 weeks later use the epi sooth.

If you still having trouble or want to discuss what i have recommended some more drop me an e mail i might be able to suggest a few other things.|||A good remedy which is cheap also is dilute teatree oil or you can even buy it in shampoo form. Do you give your dog hide chews as my dog rubbed himself raw and it was because of the chews. We stopped giving them to him and the scratching stopped|||Have the dog checked for red mange if that is it you can give your dog some Ivermection Solution by mouth, Ask your VET. It works!!

If that's not it go to a feed store and get some "NEW - STOCK" it will help !!
