Need to know what type of rash or skin condition my son has?

He has developed an itch on his arm and thee rash is round and slightly red, the size of a $1 coin, he also has 2 smaller round rash on his face, cheek area but these are smaller, about the size of a dime. It doesn't appear to be chickenpox bcz the size of the rash is larger.|||ring worm? I'm never dealt with it but I have seen someone with it and heard that it was highly contagious. Maybe he touched his face and made it spread or vise versa|||It's really hard to diagnose a rash without seeing it, but what you're describing sounds very suspicious for ringworm.

Ringworm is not really a worm at all. It's caused by a fungus. The medical term for it (when it's on your arm or face) is tinea corporis. If it's in the groin it's called tinea cruris (jock itch), if it's on the feet, tinea pedis (athlete's foot); and if it's on the scalp, tinea capitis.

Any or all can be treated with an over-the-counter antifungal cream, like lotrimin. It will take up to a week or more to get better, but you should see some improvement after a day or to, if what the child has is actually ringworm. If there's not improvement after a week, or if it's getting worse, see a doctor.

Also, if it is ringworm, don't use steroid creams like hydrocortisone. That will make it worse.

P.S. if it does get better with an antifungal, MAKE SURE to continue to apply the cream for a week or two after the rash has cleared up. Otherwise, there's a good chance it will come back later.

Good luck!
